Peek at my closet!

Hope you all had a great weekend! I know I did because I rearranged my whole closet! I love the feeling of rearranging and making it look all new. I threw in a some practical organizing items and some fun ideas. My closet actually grows outside my closet, with a rolling rack, which is okay to have. As long as you can make it work, look organized and appealing, it's creative.  Overall, I was happy with the outcome because it works for me.

My bins are labeled with what's inside because they're high up.
Overview

Color- coordinated and separated by sleeve length, bottoms, dresses, etc.

A great way to store boxes and bins.

Creative way to make your boots stand up!

Can you tell I'm a tad bit obsessed with her?
If you're one to keeps old magazines, use them as inserts to make your boot stand up!

VOILA

Boots are stored behind the rolling rack for now, since they're not in season.

Hope this gave you inspiration. Happy organizing!

Shoe Obsession

She can't find the right shoes if she's not organized!

We all wish our shoe closets looked like this:

Or this:

And this:

That may not be practical or you may not have enough shoes to fulfill a room for shoes but you can at least make your shoe space look appealing. I don't believe in keeping your shoes in their original boxes for the following reasons:
  1. You can't see whats inside the box. Out if sight, out of mind.
  2. It doesn't look unified to have all these different color or different size boxes.
  3. I have found that keeping shoes inside boxes create more dust and could create mold.
If you like your shoes in boxes, you can use Shoe storage boxes that are unified in color and size. It looks more appealing and they have clear slots where you can see what's inside. You can also attach a Polaroid photo of the shoe and place it in front of the box.

Your Closet Organizing Tips

Organize your closet with these easy tips!

  • First you need to edit your closet, take out what you have NOT worn in 6 months. Sometimes when I go to filter out my closet, I see a shirt that I loved when I bought it or it was an expensive item and I don't want to let go of it and I hold onto it a bit longer. If you haven't touched it, then you most likely won't wear it. But if you can't let go, then wear it! Make it a point to wear it the next day, that way you can get it out of your system and then set it free! If something is damaged or worn out, toss it. If something doesn't fit anymore, donate it or sell it. I always place my items on E bay. Whatever you sell can go towards any organizing tools you may need (hangers, dividers, bins, etc.). I suggest a local consignment shop or if you have one near you, Plato's closet.

  • Set up a system that works for you. I tend to put things together better when its color coordinated and separated by type, such as tops, dresses, bottoms, etc. Set up zones, such as what you need to hang, what should be folded and where you want to store your shoes.

  • Create an attractive storage with hooks, bins, shelves or dividers. Bins work great for any type of accessory such as belts, hats, or scarves. Try to keep bins at eye level where you can look in, or if you place them high make sure to clearly label whats inside.

  • Make sure you use the right hangers! Remember, there's a reason why wire hangers are free, they basically ruin your clothes. You want to maintain the shape of your clothes. A great new tool are the velvet hangers because your clothes don't fall or slip off. I prefer wooden hangers just because they give it a rich, classy and unified look.

  • Folding your clothes can be annoying, so I try to hang to as much as I can. Items such as sweaters though can get ruined and they're not hard to fold. Try sweater boxes or keeping them stowed up high during the summer.

I hope these tips have been helpful! Happy organizing! -Helda

The Magazine Ad that started it all.

ORGANIZE YOUR CLOSET! It's as simple as that, after seeing this ad in Style Watch magazine, it showed me that organizing can actually be fun. You can organize your closet or personal space to fit your personality. Whether you prefer your closet color coordinated or you like to separate it by work, casual and dressy, you'll find your way to your personal closet makeover. These are a few great tips!

Sisterly Love

I'm always there to help out my sisters, but this one in particular needed it in my expertise! :) Her closet was a mess and I wish I had a before picture to show you how much of a mess it was. Not only did we organize her closet, but we sorted through all her clothes that she's had since before she got married....6 years ago. That's a long time to be holding onto clothes or any other item that you don't wear. Test yourself. Give yourself 6 months max, whatever you don't touch or even glance at, toss it, sell it, or donate it! We got rid of a ton of old shoes and were able to show off a few pairs she forgot she had. We were also able to maximize so much closet space with these thin hangers and black bins.
Check out the 360 degree video below!
Shoe Rack was bought for $40

I taught my older sister how to fold nicely

Hangers were from Bed, Bath & Beyond -  A set of 50 for $30!
This is such a versatile way to hang your hats and show off what you probably forgot you had! They come with little clips that you can remove and put anywhere to hold any garment.

We color coordinated everything!

Jewelry Galore

I have tons and tons of custom jewelry just like any other girl does and it's so hard to keep track of what you have or what you need. I find myself buying a pearl necklace when I already have 5! Find yourself a shoe organizer! I'm telling you it always works for me! I found this one at TJMaxx for $5 clearance. The hooks were removable, depending on the length of the necklaces, which was great!

The tool I carry everywhere...

I tend to bring organization everywhere I go but not on purpose. I've found a way to make one of my stresses at work go away with one simple tool...a shoe organizer. A shoe organizer can go a long way.

Before, I had to rustle through packets of medication coupons just to find the right one

Use an Over-the-Door shoe organizer for just $12 at Bed, Bath & Beyond ( of course with the 20% off coupon we all get in the mail). In alphabetical order, a simple stress has disappeared.
